WAYPOINT PARK PHASE II
Building upon an award-winning Phase 1, Groundswell is working with the City and Port of Bellingham, Harcourt Developers and State Agencies on Waypoint Park Phase II. Design work is just beginning to further the city’s goal in creating a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood with new parks and trails along the Puget Sound. The park will afford remarkable views of the San Juan Islands and celebrate the site’s post-industrial fabric. This future waterfront park will provide a range of passive recreational opportunities including small gathering areas, picnic areas and opportunities for interpretation and education. Waypoint Park serves as an indelible anchor to Bellingham’s Waterfront District, a 237-acre post-industrial waterfront that was formerly a Georgia Pacific pulp and tissue mill. Redevelopment of the Waterfront District is a unique opportunity intended to restore public access along the shoreline and establish a vibrant mixed-use extension of downtown Bellingham.
