OREGON STATE HOSPITAL - SALEM
The Oregon State Hospital renovation exemplifies the new Treatment Mall model approach to patient care. This 622-bed psychiatric hospital serves four patient groups: ABC (Adult Behavioral and Corrections), PSR (Psychosocial Rehabilitation), Neurological/Geriatric, and Transitional patients. The 22 unique courtyards were crafted through numerous focus groups that engaged clinicians, security, and patients. These outdoor spaces support the Treatment Mall model of care by supporting group therapy sessions, horticultural therapy, respite and active recreation. Our work also included integration/coordination with the National Historic District, building siting, pedestrian and vehicular circulation, parking lot design and storm water management. Completed by Chris Jones, as an Associate at Walker Macy, prior to founding Groundswell.
