LEBANON LIBRARY AND JUSTICE CENTER
Lebanon’s new library and justice center, sited within Academy Square Park, serves as the ‘front door’ to the city while providing a new inviting civic space for the community to enjoy. The City’s existing facilities were undersized and challenging for the staff to work in and not centrally located. This 7.4 acre master plan served to unite the Public Library, Justice Center and Senior Center to create an attractive civic gathering space. The site features various outdoor plazas, passive and active open space, seating, planting areas and an outdoor reading room. A grove of Oregon White Oaks, along the southern edge of the site were maintained to create an urban space for respite and shade. The buildings and site interweaves the complex relationship of security and public access while presenting a civic building façade to the community and street. The two buildings were designed to have similar massing and materials. This created a ‘civic campus’ allowing for connectivity between the two buildings and site. Completed by Chris Jones, as Associate at Walker Macy, prior to founding Groundswell.
