HARBORSIDE FOUNTAIN PARK
Harborside Fountain Park and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) Memorial Plaza are two connected public spaces in downtown Bremerton that commemorate the workers of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Bremerton’s shipyard is one of Washington’s largest industries, and recent public works are bringing the community in touch with this heritage. In collaboration with the City of Bremerton and WET design we developed two new downtown parks intended to activate the downtown, celebrate its maritime history and  link downtown to the Puget Sound. Together, the two spaces create a corridor of public space that extends from downtown to Puget Sound. While Harborside Park offers more general purpose park space and experiences of the water, PSNS Memorial Plaza incorporates substantial interpretive panels and integrates parts of historically relevant naval vessels into the landscape. Users get to experience ship hulls and industrial relics in a direct, personal manner, giving them insights into the stories of the shipyard, the engine of Bremerton’s economy and culture.
