ASIAN ART MUSEUM EXPANSION
The Seattle Art Museum in Volunteer Park just completed its first substantial renovation and expansion of the iconic 1930s Bebb and Gould Art Deco museum. This transformation is evidenced in a new addition that connects activity within the museum to the community activity in Volunteer Park. Ensuring that this historic landmark remains an important cultural resource for future generations, site improvements respected the Olmsted legacy and restored various park elements. In addition to the museum expansion, the Seattle Art Museum, in partnership with numerous community groups, is upgrading various park paths within Volunteer Park to provide better accessibility and address various ADA citations. Working with the National Park Service, Seattle Parks and Recreation, the Seattle Art Museum, Volunteer Park Trust and Friends of Seattle Olmsted Parks on the redevelopment proved a successful project driven by consensus and not compromise. Completed by Chris Jones, as Principal in Charge at Walker Macy, prior to founding Groundswell.
